Conte Collectibles anunciou o lançamento de uma série de novos playsets relacionados a vikings para o natal passado. Até agora nada! Nenhum playset apareceu em loja alguma e todos ficam se perguntando se a partir de agora a Conte não venderá seus playsets exclusivamente através de seu web site... Outro problema é o fato de que nenhuma figura nova em plástico de viking está anunciada, e a recepeção foi menos do que calorosa por parte dos colecionadores. Aparentemente a Conte queria lançar seus "novos" playsets com as velhas figuras de vikings e saxões já disponíveis, algumas novas peças em poliuretano (na maioria monges medievais, mas alguns vikings legais também), e cenários em resina! Imagino que pouquíssimos colecionadores tenham encomendado esses playsets e o lançamento tenha sido adiado até depois que novas poses de vikings e saxões estejam disponíveis. Será isso? Eu mesmo tenho 3 playsets da Conte (The Warlord - The village; Stamford Bridge - Valhalla Awaits; e Adventures of the Foreign Legion), todos excelentes. O que leva as pessoas a comprarem os playsets da Conte, me corrijam se eu estiver errado, são os SOLDADINHOS DE PLÁSTICO, não o resto! Mais sorte da próxima vez, Conte.

Conte Collectibles had anounced the release of a series of new viking related playsets for last Xmas. So far nothing! No playset showed up on any store and everybody is asking whether Conte won't be selling their playsets to stores, but only through their web site... Another problem is that no new viking plastic figurines is anounced, and the reception was less than warm by collectors. It seems Conte want to make "new" playsets with their old vikings/saxons figurines, some new polyurethane pieces (mostly early medieval monks, but some nice vikings too), and resin sceneries! I wonder very few collectors had ordered these playsets and the release had to be postponed until after new poses of vikings and saxons become available. Could that be so? I own 3 of Conte's playsets (The Warlord - The village; Stamford Bridge - Valhalla Awaits; and Adventures of the Foreign Legion) all of them excellent. What makes people buy their playsets, correct me if I'm wrong, are their PLASTIC TOY SOLDIERS, not the rest! Better luck next time, Conte!

Pegasus Hobbies, uma das grandes em matéria de kits de montar nas escalas 1/72 e 1/48 está prestes a lançar soldadinhos de plástico na escala 1/32! Nos últimos anos a Pegasus tinha lançado uma série de acessórios na escala 1/32, e como os resultados (vendas) foram animadores, eles estão preparando um série de lançamentos que vão incluir figuras da Roma Antiga até a II Guerra Mundial para  os anos de 2007 e 2008. Quem lembra dos acessórios (palmeiras, cercas de arame farpado e cactus) sabe que a qualidade da Pegasus é de primeira linha. Excelente notícia, não é verdade?

Pegasus Hobbies, one of the big ones when it comes to plastic kits on both 1/72 and 1/48 scales is about to release plastic toy soldiers on 1/32 scale! In the last few years Pegasus had a series of accessories available on 1/32 scale, and since the results (sales) were good, they are preparing a wide range of plastic figures including from ancient Romans to World War II for the years 2007 and 2008. Those who remember Pegasus' accessories (palm trees, barbed wire fences and cactii) know that Pegasus is a first rate company. Great news, isn't it?

Todos os colecionadores estão curiosos com as grandes novidades que dois fabricantes estão anunciando para breve. A primeira é a Replicants, essa empresa especialíssima do Peter Cole, que estará lançando 4 poses de normandos a cavalo! Os primeiros normandos a cavalo, em plástico, desde os anos 60, quando a Elastolin lançou suas figuras. Claro, as figuras da Elastolin eram na escala 1/24, e essas da Replicants em 1/32. Os primeiros soldadinhos de plástico de cavaleiros normandos, na escala 1/32 na história! OBA! O outro lançamento ansiosamente aguardado é da Forces of Valor. Trata-se de figuras de celtas! As fotos são espetaculares, e são sem dúvida os mais belos soldadinhos de celtas já lançados. Duas maravilhosas novidades. Agora é só aguardar e vê-los aqui no BLOG DOS SOLDADINHOS.

All collectors are curious about the great news two manufacturers are soon to unveal. The first one is from Replicants, that very special company by Peter Cole, that will release 4 poses of mounted normans! The first normans on horses since the 1960's, when Elastolin released their range. Naturally, those figurines were in the 1/24 scale, and Replicants will make theirs in the 1/32 scale. The first mounted normans in plastic in the 1/32 scale ever! WOW! The other eagerly awaited realese is from Forces of Valor. Celts! The pictures are spectacular, and there's no doubt these will be the most beautiful plastic Celts ever. Two wonderful news. Now we only have to wait to see them here at the TOY SOLDIER BLOG.

O fabricante inglês Replicants recentemente lançou uma série de figuras de guerreiros feridos em combate. Soldadinhos feridos são meio raros, muito mais raros de achar do que soldados de verdade se ferem no campo de batalha. Replicants, que se orgulha de criar sets que outros fabricantes não tem interesse em produzir, preencheu essa lacuna. Dentre outros essa linha tem 1 apache, 2 marinheiros napoleônicos e 2 normandos. São esses últimos que nos interessam.

 

A primeira figura é um guerreiro normando típico que recebeu uma flechada na altura do peito. Ferido, ele encostou-se em um toco de árvore e parece ter morrido. A escultura (como é comum em se tratando de Peter Cole) é muito bem feita. Os detalhes são autênticos e a pose é muito convincente.

 

A segunda figura é mais parecido com um huscarl saxão, ou um viking. Ele está ferido na cabeça e se arrasta do campo de batalha ainda segurando seu machado. A expressão de seu rosto é de dor e é muito comovente. O único detalhe pouco razoável é que ele mesmo gravemente ferido ainda arrasta consigo seu machado.

 

Quase não havia rebarba nos soldadinos e ambos são injetados em plástico cor de prata, típico para figuras medievais. Um excelente complemento para a linha do Xerife de Nottingham da própria Replicants, os vikings da DSG, Forces of Valor ou Emhar, ou mesmo para acompanhar os playsets da Conte Collectibles. Altamente recomendados.

Replicants, the british manufacturer, recently released a series of figurines of warriors wounded in combat. Wounded toy soldiers are quite rare, much rarer than real life soldiers really wounded. Replicants, that takes pride in making ranges other manufacturers wouldn't, filled this gap. Among others there is an Apache, 2 napoleonic period sailors and 2 normans on this range. The latter are the ones we are interested in.

 

The first figurine is a typical Norman warrior, and he has been perced by an arrow on his chest. He has leaned on a tree stump and looks dead. The sculpting (as is usually the case with Peter Cole) is very well made. The details are authentic and the pose is quite convincing.

 

The second figure looks more like a Saxon huscarl or Viking. He has an open wound on his head and drags himself out of the battlefield still holding his axe. His face shows signs of extreme pain and is very moving. The only detail not accurate is that even though he is seriously injured he still carries his axe.

 

There was almost no flash on the toy soldiers and they were both injected in silver plastic, very common for medieval figurines. This is an excellente add-on to Replicants' Sherriff of Nottingham range, DSG, Forces of Valor or Emhar Vikings, or even Conte Collectibles' medieval playset series. Highly recommended.

 Triários romanos da Hat

 

A Hat tem uma extensa linha de figuras de romanos do período republicano. Figuras adequadas para as Guerras Púnicas, contra Cartago, e também as cidades-estados italianos vizinhas de Roma. Esse é o quinto set de romanos, quatro de infantaria e um de cavalaria, lançado pela Hat, e esses são os triários. Os triários eram veteranos experientes, senhores de mais de 35 anos, com bastante experiência militar. Seu equipamento diferia bastante das outras tropas e isso é aparente nas figuras também.

 

As esculturas são corretas anatomicamente, mas as poses deixam apenas um pouco a desejar. Talvez ficassem melhor se aparentassem mais ação, mas os triários ficavam atrás, de reserva, enquanto outros tipos de tropas (velites, príncipes e hastatis) se revezavam no ataque. O equipamento é correto, inclusive com o detalhe de que eles só usavam grevas (proteção de bronze para a perna) nas pernas direitas. Os detalhes dos capacetes e armadura são muito bem feitos. Eu realmente gostaria que o escultor da Hat aprendesse a separar o corpo dos soldadinhos dos escudos e armas, seria uma grande melhora!

 

A caixa trás um belo desenho, e contém 16 figuras em 4 poses. Esse set é mais uma boa adição a qualquer coleção de romanos, e indispensável em se tratando do exército da república romana.

 Roman triarii by Hät Industries

 

Hät Industries offers a wide range of Roman figurines from the republic period. These are adequate for the wars against Carthage, and also the italian city-states neighboring Rome. This is their 5th set of Romans (4 infantry and 1 cavalry) released by Hät, and these are triarii. The triarii were experienced veterans, men over 35, with plenty military experience. Their equipament was quite different from other troops, and that is clear on the figurines too.

 

The sculpting is anatomically correct, but the poses are far from perfect. Maybe they would look better if they seemed more active, but triarii stayed behind, as reserves, while other kinds of troops (velites, princips and hastatis) took times attacking. The equipament is correct, including the detail that they only wore their greaves (bronze protection for the leg) on the right leg. I'd really love if Hät's sculptor would learn how to separate the body of the toy soldiers from their shields and weapons, that'd be an improvement!

 

The box is decorated with a beautiful drawing and contains 16 figurines in 4 poses. This set is a good addition to any collection of Romans, and indispensable when collecting Roman republic armies.

Continuando, após um longo hiato, seus lançamentos na escala 1/32, a fábrica Hat apresenta dois novos sets relacionados às Guerras Púnicas: Aliados italianos e Triários romanos (infantaria pesada). Hoje vamos ver os aliados romanos, um set que trás pela primeira vez guerreiros samnitas para as coleções de soldadinhos de plástico nessa escala. Sâmnio foi um grande rival italiano de Roma, nos anos da república, e três longas guerras foram travadas entre Roma e essa cidade-estado. Roma, óbvio, acabou por conquistar Sâmnio e na época das Guerras Púnicas (Contra Cartago), os samnitas serviram nos exércitos romanos.

 

As figuras são simples, a escultura tem um mínimo de detalhe, sem muita preocupação em dar profundidade às figuras. Por conta disso a Hat normalmente esculpe armas e escudos grudados ao corpo dos soldadinhos, uma solução econômica, mas que desagrada aos colecionadores. Do ponto de vista histórico essas figuras estão muito bem pesquisadas, com grande atenção ao tipo de capacete, arrmadura e armamento típico dos samnitas nesse período.

 

A caixa é muito bonita, talvez a melhor coisa desse set. Uma pena que o conteúdo não reflita exatamente o que vemos desenhado na frente da caixa. Cada caixa tem 16 figuras, mas isso não quer dizer muita coisa...  Sempre pensando primeiro em questões econômicas a Hat lança seus sets com apenas 4 poses diferentes, o que é pouco para qualquer colecionador. Na prática a maioria dos fabricantes lança 6 poses por vez, mas existem exceções que lançam 8, 10 ou mais!

 

Se eu recomendo que os colecionadores comprem? Claro que sim! Essas figuras são medianas, mas com um pouquinho de tinta e pesquisa é possível torná-las bonitas e atraentes para qualquer coleção des soldadinhos de plástico. Como as fotos mostram, a pintura pode ser mais elaborada ou mais simples, questão de gosto.

 Italian Allies by Hät Industries

 

After a long hiatus, Hät Industries is continuing to release figurines in 1/32 scale. This time they are introducing two new sets related to the Carthaginian wars: Italian Allies and Roman Triarii (heavy infantry). Today we'll take a look at the Italian Allies, a set that for the first time offers Samnite wariors to plastic toy soldiers collections on this scale. Samnium was a major Roman rival during the years of the republic, and three long wars were fought by Rome against this city-state. Eventually the Romans conquered Samnium and the samnites served on Roman armies.

 

The figurines are simple, sculpting has a minimal of detail, and no concern about giving them depth. That's why Hät usually makes the weapons and shield close to the body of their toy soldiers, an economical solution, but also one that displeases the collectors. From a historical point of view, these figurines are very well researched, and great attention was given to details such as helmets, armor and weapons, typical of Samnites from this period.

 

The box is very beautiful, maybe the best thing on this set. Too bad the contents do not reflect what we see drawn on the front of the box. Each box comes with 16 plastic toy soldiers, but that means little... Always concerned on economic matters, Hät only offers 4 different poses on each set, which is not enough for any collector. In practice, most manufacturers offer 6 figurines per set, but there are exceptions that release 8, 10 or more!

 

Do I recommend collectors to buy this set? Of course! These are average looking figurines, but a bit of paint and research can make them beautiful and attractive to any toy soldier collection. As the pictures show, painting could be elaborate or plain, it's a matter of taste.
